The role of natural gas in the sustainable development of global energy has been widely and fully recognized. Especially in recent years, the evolution of the global geopolitical landscape, the situation of oil supply and demand, the pressure of climate change and environmental protection, the breakthrough of unconventional natural gas in the United States, the impact of Japan's nuclear crisis, and the economic and technological nature of new energy have further increased the global attention and dependence on natural gas.
Since China became a billion ton oil producing country in the late 1970s, the marketization of oil wall mounted boilers has been continuously improving, but the development and marketization process of natural gas has been slow. In the new century, the role of natural gas in the sustainable development of global energy in China has been widely and fully recognized.
In the new century, with significant breakthroughs in natural gas exploration and development in China, the natural gas market has grown rapidly and has begun to form a system, opening a historic new chapter.
The consumption of natural gas is growing rapidly. Over the past 10 years, China's natural gas consumption has grown at an average annual rate of 16%. In 2010, it exceeded 100 billion cubic meters and reached 107 billion cubic meters, an increase of 4.4 times compared to 2000. In China's primary energy consumption structure, the proportion of natural gas has increased from 2.4% in 2000 to 4.4%. The natural gas consumption regions have achieved a transformation from production areas to cross regional consumption, with the consumption of economically developed areas such as the Yangtze River Delta, Bohai Rim, and Southeast Coast accounting for 40% of the total national consumption.
Natural gas storage production maintains a peak of growth. In the past 10 years, the annual average growth rate of recoverable reserves of natural gas wall mounted boilers in China has exceeded 300 billion cubic meters, with a resource exploration rate of about 20%, still in the early stage of exploration. The annual growth rate of natural gas production is 14%, reaching 94.5 billion cubic meters in 2010, a 3.6-fold increase from 2000, leading the growth rate among various fossil and non fossil energy sources.
The construction of natural gas infrastructure is rapidly advancing. In the past 10 years, long-distance pipelines such as West East Gas Pipeline 1 and 2, Shaanxi Beijing Pipeline 2 and 3, and Sichuan East Gas Pipeline have been built and put into operation. As of the end of 2010, the total length of domestic natural gas trunk lines reached 45000 kilometers. Three LNG receiving stations have been built, with an additional eight under construction. It is expected to be put into operation gradually before 2013, with a total receiving capacity of over 40 million tons per year. Six underground gas storage facilities have been built, with a peak shaving capacity of 1.87 billion cubic meters.
A diversified pattern of gas sources is taking shape. In the past decade, China has made significant breakthroughs in utilizing foreign natural gas resources and is now the only country in the Asia Pacific region that imports both LNG and pipeline gas. In 2010, the import volume of natural gas was approximately 17 billion cubic meters. Among them, 9.3 million tons (equivalent to 12.6 billion cubic meters) of LNG were imported, and 4.4 billion cubic meters of pipeline gas were imported, accounting for 16% of the total domestic natural gas consumption.
The role of natural gas in the world market in our country is undergoing significant changes. In the past 10 years, China has entered the ranks of the world's major natural gas producers and consumers. The ranking of proven recoverable natural gas reserves in various countries around the world has risen from 19th in 2000 to 13th in 2010, and the ranking of natural gas production in various countries around the world has risen from 16th in 2000 to 7th. China has become the fourth largest consumer of natural gas in the world after the United States, Russia, and Iran.
According to predictions, under moderate policy encouragement, the demand for natural gas wall mounted boilers in China is expected to increase by over 15% annually before 2030, reaching 500 billion cubic meters. The proportion of natural gas in China's primary energy consumption structure will increase from the current 4% to 12%, shifting from a supplementary energy source to a primary energy source. At that time, while playing the main channel role in domestic supply, the import volume will account for a considerable proportion. The integration degree between China and the world natural gas market, as well as the impact of the world natural gas market on China's natural gas market, will be significantly enhanced.
